For the Love of the Game – a Conversation with Lightnin’ Lyle Jensen

Lightnin’ Lyle Jensen’s love affair with flying discs began in the summer of 1957 and by the spring of ’75 he and a handful of friends founded the Minnesota Frisbee Association.

Over the next 35 years, Lightnin’ became a prominent fixture on the Minnesota flying disc scene – playing in and/or emceeing virtually every major MN flying disc event, including introducing disc sports to over 60,000 spectators at the 1990 Olympic Festival. Along the way, he became Minnesota’s first I.F.A. World Class Frisbee Master and was named a “PDGA Master-of-the-20th-Century” by Disc Golf World News.

In 2006, Lyle was inducted into the Minnesota Disc Sports Hall of Fame as an inaugural member and serves as the Hall’s executive Director.

In 2018, Lightnin’ became one of the founders of the Flying Disc Museum and serves as a Museum Curator and is the Gallery Manager for Pluto Platters – his favorite flying disc.
