Why this website?

When I first started throwing a disc in the fall of 2000, I searched online to find out all I could about the grips, throws, etc. At the time Youtube didn’t exist and I was able to find only a few websites which showed the power grip and split finger grip and which talked a bit about the different throws but as time went on there really wasn’t a good encompassing website for ultimate. And even when Youtube was created, there was a lot of really poorly done videos so I decided to make my own to teach players how to play ultimate better.

I created this site in the hopes that someone like you will find it useful. If you can take just one thing from this site then it’s served its purpose. Also, I would love to hear your comments, requests for articles/videos and testimonials if you’ve found my site useful for your game.

How long have you been playing ultimate for?

I started throwing in the fall of 2000 and started playing ultimate in the fall of 2001.

How far can you throw?

I can throw an ultimate disc roughly 130 yards. My longest throw with a golf disc is over 200m (220 yards). I also hold 5 World Records for distance in canine disc. I broke the Distance to Canine Catch World Record on October 14, 2012 when I threw a disc 134 yards (402 feet) to Davy Whippet, breaking a record that was set in 1994. My goal is to set many other records, including “Longest Field Goal with a Disc”, “Longest Free Throw Made with a Disc” and “Longest Throw with a Flying Disc”.

What other disc sports do you compete in?

Along with ultimate, I also compete in disc golf, canine disc and overall flying disc competitions. You can find out all about what I’m up to by visiting my Frisbee Rob page at http://www.frisbeerob.com.

Will you ever do a trick shot video?

I’ve been thinking about doing a trick shot video since 2010. I always imagined throwing a disc through the window of a moving car and having a buddy catch it. That was going to be how I got started doing trick shot videos. But, as life would dictate, I instead focused on teaching videos and competing. If I was to ever do a trick shot video, I would want to involve other players. Perhaps some of the juniors players I coach, some of my buddies, or some other well known ultimate frisbee players (or even well known frisbee players).

What do you do other than be Ultimate Rob?

Along with running UltimateRob.com, I also compete in disc sports competitions (dog disc, disc golf and overalls), work full in marketing at a health club, workout, eat healthy (and teach others how to eat healthy), sit on the Awards Committee for Ultimate Canada, sit on the Overalls Committee for WFDF, sit on the Calgary Disc Golf committee, help grow juniors ultimate in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, read as much as I can and blog on my personal website, Odd and Misunderstood.
