The future of Ultimate Rob won’t be just one person. Although the idea of this website was conceived by Rob McLeod, he relies on several key contributors for new content and to come up with new ideas for the site. This page will be updated as more contributors are added. If you’re interested in becoming a contributor, contact me so we can discuss how you can become involved.
I started playing ultimate in 1996 the first day I stepped foot on the Virginia Tech campus and have not stopped. I remember playing pickup with other freshmen on the quad and thinking I was doing pretty well. Then I found the club team playing and thought i’d join them. I jumped in for a point and quickly realized I had no earthly idea what was going on. This game was entirely different than anything I’d ever seen before. Maybe the fact that everyone was wearing cleats and not barefeet should have clued me in!
Creating, captaining, and coaching a coed team from Illinois was life changing for me as a person and a player. I learned more about…um everything… from this experience than I did from school. It was one of those transormational experiences that changed how I looked at myself. I became and athlete and a leader because of the wonderful teamates that shared their knowledge, talent, and trust with me.
I want to give back a little bit of what ultimate has given to me. I’d like to enable all those students/coaches out there who are working hard for their teamates. I hope you find my reflections and resources to be useful. I know that building a team or taking one to the next level requires an insane amount of effort. The resources here cannot fix that problem but we hope to give you confidence in doing the work and that your work may be made more effective. Good luck!
Other stuff about me: I love picking up with random teams at random tournaments. Weekends when I’m not doing that, I enjoy backpacking, cooking, and reading. My favorite cleats are Nike Talarias. My favorite throw is the low release inside-out forehand. I currently serve on the Central PA Ultimate Club board of directors and teach ultimate clinics for the Lancaster Recreation Commission.
Melissa has started the website Ultimate Results, a website for her throwing clinics: http://www.ultyresults.com/
My heart inspires me to write about human nature (mind, body, spirit) as I come to know it, often using my own experience as a segue. I draw upon the knowledge I have gathered throughout my journey into Psychology, Neuroscience, Meditation, Yoga, Intuition, Passion…The journey continues to enlighten me.

Michael Lawler (former Brute Squad coach) has created a series of videos analyzing footage from the past couple of years and utilizing them as teaching moments. These are a fantastic resource. A huge thank you to Michael for sharing them with us!
I grew up in Minnesota and spent lots of time as a kid throwing around frisbees just to see them fly. Somehow, I never played ultimate until I was 25, but I joined a summer league then (in 1999) and haven’t stopped playing since.
My game didn’t really take off until I moved to Canada four years ago, though, and I’ve made it my goal this year (2011) to compete at Canadian Nationals for the first time–at the Master’s level–by the end of the summer. Only time will tell how that will turn out.
When I’m not playing ultimate, I profess linguistics at the University of Calgary, calculate all the baseball stats at www.basesproduced.com, and take pictures of the beautiful things I see in the world around me.
