Handler Cutting Drill

 Drills,Practice,Throwing 17 April 2011

In this video, I talk about the basics of cutting and relate it to a quick and easy handler cutting drill.

As a handler, it’s important to get use to cutting a few steps each time in order to get open for the disc. Too many handlers will just stand in place and not move their feet or their body and that makes it easy for the defender since the defender can just stand there and take away the throw.

Ultimate Frisbee Drills – MTA’s (Maximum Time Aloft)

 Practice,Pulling,Throwing,Videos 16 April 2011

This is a great drill for becoming a better puller and overall thrower. By doing this drill, you will be able to throw the disc longer, higher and more accurately. As well, you will become better at reading the disc while in the air and you can practice your catching. I only show this drill with my backhand but you can also do MTA’s with a forehand.

Improve Your Faking and Marking With the 3 Man Drill

 Drills,Marking,Throwing 14 April 2011

One of the best drills I’ve done is called the 3 Man Drill. Basically, it involves one throw, one marker, one catcher and one disc. The flow of the drills works as follows: mark, throw, go. As you’ll see in the video below, it’s all about the thrower trying to fake out the marker, and the marker trying to prevent the thrower from getting a clean throw off.

Three Tips to Prepare for Tryouts

In this video, I give three tips I feel will help you prepare for tryouts for an ultimate frisbee team. With only 3 months before summer, I think the most beneficial things you can do is practice throwing, get stronger in the gym and get faster/better endurance by doing interval training. I also talk about why I think playing indoors during the winter isn’t very beneficial and should only be done if all the other 3 things are done first.
